Second Letter Deployed!

Hey Superfans!

First, I think I may be a genius, because this whole preorder promotion has been so much fun--thank you for the lovely emails and for sharing your excitement with me about LION HEART! It makes it a tiny little bit easier to think about saying goodbye to this series.

But, as promised, I'd update you when the second letter was unlocked....

AND THAT JUST HAPPENED!!

Alright, so I know this may seem tough, but the next goal is....

125 preorders!!

And like I said, that may seem tough, right?  That's a big jump.  BUT, I think you can do it.  And there have been a lot of things lately that are leading me to believe that the bigger the goal, the better.

So let's do this.

Copied from the first post:

What to do:

Email anniesbookstuff@gmail.com with something attached that shows you preordered the book.   Confirmation, receipt--these all work! You can preorder at YOUR LOCAL INDIE, BARNES AND NOBLE or AMAZON.

Also, if you preorder from Buttonwood Books, I can SIGN it at my launch party in May.  Preordered and signed!  Boom!

You don't need to include your name or email at that point--I'll send you back a form to fill out.  This is because A) it will be easier for me to keep track, b) it will show you I got your email, and C) it will be an easy way to COUNT.

Because COUNTING matters.

I have FOUR letters.  Every book you preorder counts once, and here's the trick:

Letter #1 will be released to you immediately.

Letter #2 will be released if I receive 35 preorders.  Not a huge hurdle guys!  Tell your friends. I'm pretty sure 35 of you have ALREADY preordered, so just get what you're due ;-).

Letter #3 will be released if I receive 125 preorders.

Letter #4 will be released....well, I'll tell you when you hit 125 preorders.

Super Fan Preorder Promo

Hey Team Awesome,

So, I don't say this as much as I should, but I'm always FLOORED by the people who seriously love my books.  I've wanted to be a writer since I was this big:

And I remember books that I LOVED.  Like how at the end of Libba Bray's THE SWEET FAR THING I sat in my bed at about 2am and cried, clutching the book tight to my chest like the most literal of life preservers.

I remember the rush of literally CONSUMING every Tamora Pierce book ever written.  I remember writing on my calendar when the His Dark Materials books were coming out.  I remember obsessing over Anthony Horowitz and Meg Cabot and wondering if I was having more fun in books than in real life.

So it's pretty damn crazy for me to see people having the same kinds of emotions for my books.  Because I get that.  And there is nothing that I am more deeply grateful for.

So, I'm doing a preorder promotion, and this is straight up for my fans.  It is chock full of spoilers (of SCARLET and LADY THIEF, not LION HEART).  And LOVE.  Consider it a balm to ease your aching hearts after the pain (I know, I know, I'm sort of sorry!) of LADY THIEF's end.

SO LETS GET TO THE POINT.

In LION HEART, there is mention made of five letters that Rob writes to Scarlet after the end of LADY THIEF.  She doesn't receive them until way later, so they don't impact the story.  I think they give away one tiny piece of information that you would otherwise discover in LION HEART, but it's not shocking or anything.  In the book, she only reads the last one.

So I wrote the other four.  For you guys.  And you can read them if you preorder the book!

Boom!

The Inevitable Post

Oh good lord.  The last time I blogged was OCTOBER??!

My apologies.

I used to be a huge fan of end of the year retrospectives, but the past few years I haven't always been feeling it.  This year in particular, I just don't know what to say.

It's been a weird year.

There have been a few bumps.  I think the first six months of this year were some of the most challenging I've ever had. Mostly it looked like this:

Well, ok, no.  If it looked like Ryan Gosling rubbing his face and exhibiting a tender vulnerability in front of me...well...I probably wouldn't have been so stressed. Heyyyy.

But I was overwhelmed--finishing a master's degree and acting as Director for Boston GLOW--not easy.

But then there was Lion Heart.  Lion Heart was HARD.  I spent most of 2013 writing it, and the first half of 2014 staring at it and feeling broken--feeling like there were all these things wrong with it and I didn't know how to fix them.  Feeling more lost than I ever had with writing.  I felt like I had lost my faith that I could keep going with the book--I had lost Scarlet and her story and I had no idea how to say goodbye to her.

And trying to figure that out while doing the other stuff was HARD.

But then...I did it.  I finished Lion Heart--in fact, it's going to EXIST, in real BOOKISH FORM, in May.

I graduated--that was pretty awesome.

I went to my cousin's wedding, my best friend's wedding (I was maid of honor!), my little brother's graduation from law school, and I watched him get sworn in to the Pennsylvania bar.  I started as a teaching fellow at Harvard Graduate School of Education, I celebrated my older brother getting engaged to an awesome future sister-in-law and Lady Thief hit the shelves.

Which means...2014 was a pretty awesome year.

But guys...I have a feeling that 2015 is going to be awesome.  I will officially publish my first trilogy, my big brother will get married (actually, EVERYONE is getting married--I have five weddings to go to so far.)

And this will be me:

So bring it on, 2015.  Because if 2014 taught me anything, its that I AM SO READY FOR YOU.

And that I'm looking forward to cracking 500 on Candy Crush.  Because whatever, I have goals.

xx

WHO AM I?

Oh hey.  I'm AC Gaughen, author of SCARLET and LADY THIEF and the forthcoming LION HEART.  This is a retelling of the Robin Hood legend featuring a bad ass girl, a lot of knives, and an incredible amount of time spent in the woods.  It's not scary (well, I guess that depends what you're scared of--if you're afraid of misogyny it's downright TERRIFYING!), but I figured I'd play along because...woods!

QUIRKY QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:

  • What scares the pants out of you?

Spiders.  All spiders.  I am deeply sympathetic to this woman, and this man has suffered my worst nightmare.  Also, wolf spiders.  They kill dogs.

  • If you were stranded on a deserted island or haunted house, what number are you to die and how?

I am 100% the first one to die.  This may seem like I don't have a sense of self preservation--and well, like, biologically speaking, I don't.  I have ZERO reflexes.  Not hyperbolically, medically.  The doctor taps my knee with the rubber mallet and NOTHING happens.  NOTHING.  So, unless it comes down to a battle of the wits, I'm toast.  Probably by a zombie to the face.

  • What is your most embarrassing Halloween costume malfunction?

I'm sure you mean more in the league of a nip slip or an OMG HAS THAT BEEN LIKE THIS ALL NIGHT?! But there's this:

Yup.  I was a pumpkin.  That happened.

  • Would you rather be covered in slime or covered in blood?

Just so everyone knows, Zoraida Cordova wrote these questions, ok?  ZORAIDA CORDOVA.  I am answering this just on the basis of SERIOUSLY THIS IS A QUESTION IN YOUR HEAD?!

Blood.  Slime just seems disease ridden (ok that logic does not discount blood....) and it's a texture thing.  And least blood isn't like...viscous.  Blehhh.

  • What magical/supernatural creature do you secretly want to be?

I would like to be the girl version of Poseidon and control all the ocean and water in the world.  All of it.  And I'm coming for YOU.

Full speed ahead!  Head over to Kat Kruger for the next stop!
